Energy Sources Needed To Help Stabilize Economy And Fast Food Corporations

As the American economy grows the economy relies more on imported supplies of the acute materials needed to prevent the fall of the economy. The new focus of the United States is the energy concern. The U.S intelligence community feels that our nation will not be secure if global energy resources are not shielded. As the writer of Resource Wars, Michael T. Klare, he states “We need a substantial quantity of imported oil to sustain our economy” (Klare 7). Oil comes from the Persian Gulf countries; the United States needs to remain pledged in the Persian Gulf to be guaranteed the flow of vital oil supplies. 

In Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, only four meatpacking plants control the industry of poultry growers. They slaughter 84% of the nation’s cattle and use unfair tactics to drive down the price of cattle in an increasingly less competitive market. They drive down the prices of the beef and poultry because they feed the animals corn, by feeding them corn helps them grown fast and gain more weight. Also this corn is cheap corn grown with fossil fuels. If there is not a substantial quantity of oil the corporation of these cattle's and farmers would not sell these animals to the companies for cheap. The fast food corporation would fall because they would have to by high priced beef and chicken, which would be sold in the fast food chains. There would be no cheaper fast food, "Dollar Menus" and promotions because of the increase of the food price.

Even though, the U.S intelligence community feels that our nation will not be secure if global energy resources are not shielded. It will affect not only the economy but many of the fast food corporations that rely on the fossil fuels, so that they will have these inexpensive beef and chicken.

Power, Revenue, Self-Intrrest

       The fast food companies rely on the workers to produce the food companies so that consumers will acquire these foods. McDonalds hire workers that will work long hours and for low wages these are marginalized workers. Marginalize workers are also working in slaughterhouses. Marginalized workers consist of illegal immigrants, handicap, and elderly people, these are people that will work for low wages. Companies doesnt really care about the workers they aee only worried about the products made, and the profit they are getting from it. Slaughterhouses also allow there workers to get injured on their job, and will not pay them workers comp; they would not report the injuries that occur.
    Kenny Dobbins  was an employee at the Monfort Slaughterhouse. One day at work he got injured, he never filed for workers' comp when he stayed home for a few days. The company doctor just bandage him up and said he had pulled a muscle, but when he got a second doctors opinion they said he need surgery. Kemmy got hurt on the job and the company did not make no effort to see the real injuries that occured. Companies have power over the employees, they want their revenue, and only interest in themselves.

"Stroking The Young Crew"

In Fast Food Nation by Schlosser he states that the managers of the McDonald’s corporation uses a psychological technique called ‘stoking’ to gain emotional connections with the employees. For Example, Schlosser states on page 74 “In absence of good wages and secure employment, the chains try to inculcate ‘team spirit’ in their young crews”. Team spirit is an emotional connection for the employees to have an exultant feeling.  This is a form that gives a positive coating, praise, and acknowledgment.  This concept is also used later in the book, when an employee from the Little Caesar Corporation, Christopher Reeves spoke at a convention. He was once a hockey player who got injured; he was making millions of dollars and neglected his family. Since his accident he realized that success means something different. Reeves stated “’I see people who achieve these conventional goals, none of it matters”. When Reeves said this everyone in the arena wiped tears from their eyes, the audience noticed a sudden awareness of something about their own lives that’s unfulfilling.
